Cadium Music Publishing's Year-End Highlights

2014 was a continuation of 2013 with more notable moments for Cadium Music...

- In This Moment's, Blood, continued to sell, and with the guidance of Kevin and Kane Churko in the studio, the band landed a new record deal with Atlantic.

ITM's new album, Black Widow, has been out less than five weeks, but the group (and the label) is in full support of the record.

Prediction: ITM's, "The Fighter," is the sleeper track on the album (think crossover radio), but won't get much attention until early next year.

- Cisco DeLuna's collaboration with Nashville's Annie Bosko is producing results.  While not written by Cisco, Bosko's "Crooked Halo" is gaining traction at Sirius radio.

- Southbound 75, a new project from Mark Lorenzo, was recorded this year and after testing some of the tracks, rock, as well as country listeners, like what they hear.  Expect Southbound 75 to release its debut in the first quarter of 2015.

- Five Finger Death Punch - the band that keeps dishing it out - had great success with both volumes of its The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell that were released in 2013, selling 750,000 collectively.  The title track just reached number one on the rock radio charts.

The guys have already recorded much of their new album with the Churkos and the first single is expected in March with an album launch in May.

- Papa Roach recorded their latest with each Churko writing and producing part of the album.  The lead single, "Face Everything and Rise," has already been licensed and the album is due out, 1/27/15.

- Currently, three Cadium songs are in the rock radio top ten: The aforementioned, "Wrong Side," as well as Hellyeah's "Moth" and the aforementioned "F.E.A.R."  (ITM's "Sick Like Me" is #11.)

Lastly, if the industry can get a handle on the streaming situation, maybe 2015 will be a better year for all of us.

Thanks to Cadium Music Publishing's talented writers, 2013 was a good year.

Some of the highlights include Kevin and Kane Churko each winning a Juno for their engineering work for Five Finger Death Punch's American Capitalist and In This Moment's Blood albums.  Kane is the youngest person in Juno history to win in the Engineering category.  "Battle Born," from FFDP's Volume 2 album topped the rock radio charts.

Lorenzo had a really good year on the road, finally playing in cities that have been waiting for the band to play, well, for a long time.

Cisco DeLuna played a significant role in Jim Carrey's audiobook, How Roland Rolls, as well as co-writing and producing two projects: Steve Reynolds and Rodrigo Navarro.  Both albums are due out next year.

Looking ahead, Lorenzo plans to continue to support its Ignition album, and Team Churko will be in the studio with Hell Yeah and welcome back In This Moment for their next album.

…and look for the Special Edition of ITM's Blood, due out at the top of 2014.

Let's Call It "Alternativo," Instead of "Latin Alternative"

The emerging genre, "Latin Alternative," is a label to more or less separate some of the newer artists that have arrived on the scene over the last few years that don't exactly fit in some of the various Latin styles that many of us have come to know. Artists such as Ximena Sariñana, Café Tacuba and Zoé have been tagged with the Latin Alternative name, but the name isn't quite right.

In an interview with Jasmine Garsd and Felix Contreras, who host NPR's "Alt.Latino," for About.com, Contreras brings up a good point: "Latin Alternative" is only used among those in the music industry. From my observation, fans of this genre simply call it "Alternative." Think about it: Why would a native of Mexico call this music "Latin Alternative"? Do we in the U.S. label music as "American Modern Rock"? No. So let's be more inclusive and simply call the genre "Alternativo"; it speaks to the style of music and the language it is in. For those who immediately disagree, consider the term "Rock en Español" - it is understood in the U.S. to describe rock music in Spanish, so why not continue the trend? I think Latino music fans will appreciate it, as well.

In speaking with Rosario, Argentina's Austria and writer/producer, Cisco DeLuna, I am sometimes corrected by them when describing this genre. "Alternative" says it all, but "Alternativo" is more accurate.

Green Car Motel Album Release Delayed Again

The Green Car Motel album has once again been delayed, not because of problems, but because of great feedback from radio. Based on raves at radio, the label, Suonix, decided to slot the album for a better release time and decided on spring of next year. No specific date of the release yet.
